Oilers make Quick Work of Moors

Darius Middleton gave the Oilers a spark early

(Montebello) – Montebello put Alhambra away early jumping out to a 32-11 lead after one quarter and coasting to a 68-37 win over the Moors Friday night in Almont League action.

The game itself last only an hour as the officials ruled a running clock in the fourth quarter, but it was actually over well before that. Montebello stretched its lead to 30 early in the second quarter and led 55-18 at halftime.

John-michael Carabes led all scorers with 23 points with 21 of them coming in the first half. Carabes nailed five three pointers while knocking down 8 of 12 shots from the field.

In the first quarter Montebello came out red hot. Carabes had ten points in the period and Big Antonio Worthy was dominant in the paint with eight. Darius Middleton had a pair of buckets and Richard De la Cruz added seven as Montebello blitzed Alhambra early.

The barrage continued in the second with Carabes burying three more from behind the arc scoring 11 in the quarter. Javier Castillo added three buckets in the 23 point frame as the Oilers ran away.

The entire second was an opportunity for Coach Marino Angulo to empty his bench and get the second team players some work.

The Oilers had ten different players in the scorebook with Worthy joining Carabes in double figures with 10. Castillo had 9 and De la Cruz added 8.

Ironically as hot as Montebello was in the first the Oilers were shut out in the fourth. With all the starters resting Alhambra outscored them 10-0. No Moor player was in double figures as Aaron Cosme led the way with 9 and Chris Acosta and Chucky Wu each scored 6.

Montebello continued to roll improving to 18-2 overall and 2-0 in league. Alhambra dropped to 6-13 and 0-2.
