Primitivo Gomez got going in the second quarter with six points including a three ball and the Knight defense held El Monte to just seven points in the quarter. Memo Silva had six of the seven for the Lions but the Knights moved out to a 12 point halftime advantage.
Arroyo busted it wide open in the third stanza behind the hot shooting of Aholoka and Gomez. They both buried shots from behind the arc and scored five points each in the quarter. The Lions’ shooting woes continued as they managed just six points in the period and when Roche scored underneath late the Knights were up by 19.
The fourth turned into garbage time as Arroyo cruised to the victory. El Monte fouls sent Arroyo on a parade to the free throw line and the Knights responded by sinking 13 of 16 to close it out. Carlos Lupercio came off the bench to hit six of six from the charity stripe.
Gomez was also in double figures adding 16 in support of Roche. Alohoka finished with 10. Silva led the Lions with 15, but the next highest scorer for El Monte was Leo Olvera with five.
Arroyo improved to 8-9 overall, (1-0 in league), while the Lions fell to 2-13 (0-1).
