Yang Brings El Monte Back

John Yang delivered a game winning three-pointer on a pull up jumper from the top as time expired to give El Monte a 42-40 victory over Mt. View Wednesday night in Mission Valley League action.

The Lions managed only three points in the first quarter, and just four in the second, as they fell behind 16-7 at the half.

“I think the kids were just nervous for the league home opener. We shot 2 for 19 in the first half,” said El Monte Coach Eric Tabatabai. “I told them we had good looks it was just a matter of believing they would go in and our defense was going to keep us in it and it did.”

Yang and Memo Silva each finished with 11 points and helped spearhead a 35 point second half, including 19 in the third.

Brandon Martinez added 10, Leo Olvera 7, and Casey Lopez 3 as the Lions improved to 1-2 in the MVL.

Mt. View is now 2-1.
