Maranatha Press Release

(Pasadena)- Maranatha High School and Head Coach Peter Karavedas are excited to announce the hiring of Michael Owens as our offensive coordinator. Coach Owens earned a scholarship to attend the University of Oregon where he played before transferring and becoming an All-American quarterback at Whittier College.  Coach Owens was the 1195 Male Athlete of the year in 1986, and player of the year for football at Whittier College in 1985.  He was the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Team Quarterback in 1985 and 1986.

Coach Owens has an extensive background in coaching that dates back to 1995 where he coached quarterbacks at Whittier College until 1999.  After Whittier College he went to Azusa Pacific University where he was an Assistant Coach/Quarterback Coach until 2003.  From 2003-2005 Coach Owens was the Offensive Coordinator at South Hills High School where he was a part of the staff that won two CIF championships and produced three All-CIF first team quarterbacks (Phillip Guerrero ’03/Kevin Mort ’04 and ’05).  In 2005 Coach Owens became the Offensive Coordinator at Chapman University where he coached the all time leader in passing percentage, career 300 yard passing games, and holder of several school records in passing (Eric Marty).

Michael Owens brings an incredible passion to see kids grow in their relationship with Christ while excelling in the game of football.  Maranatha welcomes Coach Owens to the Minuteman family and we are excited to see the continued growth of our program under his leadership on offense.
