Joe Torosian

Good Evening!

Last night I dreamed I was playing for the Lakers. And, because I move so well without the basketball, I came around a pick in my gold home uniform, caught a pass, and launched a twenty-footer.

The ball hit the front of the rim, bounced off the backboard, and was grabbed by Wilt Chamberlain. The Big Dipper then slammed it through. True story, I mean, at least within a dream.

I’m being honest, I really dreamed this, if I was making it up I would have hit the twenty-footer, had five kids with five different women out of wedlock, and released a rap album. Instead, I shared exactly how it went down…or clanked off the rim.

Exciting Times! The Clippers beat the Wizards last night, they’ve won six of their last ten, are 12 games out of the final playoff spot, and now only, only, 16 games under .500.

Say what?

I said they are 16 games (28-44) under .500.

He may be getting long in the tooth and grouchy on the sideline, but the Indianapolis Colts need to spend the money to keep Peyton Manning at quarterback. The next best quarterback in a Colts uniform is probably the guy playing for Darryl Thomas at Covina.

Mr. Livingston, I presume?

After bringing up Mt. View’s Jose Zamora in the last Fanview, debate opened about the best backs returning in the Mid-Valley Division…38 schools, but only three backs return who gained a grand or more.

The much mentioned Village Christian back Amjed Aboul-hosn (2,028 yds), Whittier Christian’s Grant Escobar (1,084), and Sierra Vista’s Giovanni Rivera (2,304).

In the Southeast only West Covina’s Chris Solomon and Pioneer’s Tony Botello crested the thousand yard mark. Botello, who rushed for 1,189 yards, only has stats listed for the Titans first eight games.

Correction: Earlier this week when doing the Rio Hondo League alumni who have played in the Major Leagues I failed to mention Johnny Lindell of Monrovia who spent 14 seasons in the Majors.

Thank you Mr. Lowden.

Perspective Department: A recent graduate study found that of the 10,000-plus high school football players in Los Angeles County only 150 signed Division I scholarships. Keeping it on the low side that means 9,850 prep football players did not receive Division I scholarships.

Kyle MacKinnon, son of former Arroyo football HC D.J. “Please to meet you hope you guess my name” MacKinnon, recently signed with the NHL’s Boston Bruins affiliate in Providence after playing at Providence College.

Former San Gabriel player/assistant Zeke Prado, now an assistant coach/recruiter for his alma mater Dakota Wesleyan, recently put 4,200 miles on his car driving from South Dakota to Monroe, Louisana over the course of spring break to look at some players.

Better story was his earlier trip through some of Texas’ badlands/outback/God’s country, and the talent he saw there.

Our condolences and prayers go to Andy Villanueva, his family and the folks in the San Gabriel community at the sudden passing today of Bobby Villanueva—Andy’s younger brother. He was 38.

Stay thirsty my friends…
