(Baldwin Park) – Covina scored six unearned runs in the fourth inning and rolled over Baldwin Park 8-4 Thursday in Valle Vista League action.

The Colts’ defense snubbed the Braves with four double plays in the first five innings to remain perfect in league through five games. They improved to 9-3 overall.

Ramses Nava went 2 for 4 with a double, long single, and four RBIs for the Colts, who opened up 2-0 on his two run two bagger in the first inning.

Baldwin Park banged out five hits in a row with one out in the third, receiving RBI hits from Ryan Dominguez, Alejandro Natividad, and Eric Sanchez (double). Jordan Palacio doubled and moved on a wild pitch before scoring on a Jarrett Sotolongo drive through the left side in the sixth for the Braves final run. Dominguez went 3 for 4 and Fernie Gonzalez hit 2 for 3 to lead BP.

Covina leadoff batter Andrew Carrillo (3 for 4, RBI, SB) had his first three at bats go for base hits with an RBI and stolen base. Jason Martinez, shaking off the rocky third inning to induce double plays the next two stanzas, went the rest of the way to earn the complete game win.

Eddie Gutierrez took the loss in 3 1/3 innings and was replaced by Bernardo Flores. Flores allowed no hits in 3 2/3 innings and struck out seven but walked one and hit three batters.

Baldwin Park heads into a two bye week rest and will resurface on Wednesday April 13 at Wilson to begin a grueling 3 days and 3 games stand that closes with a home-and-home against Nogales and San Dimas on Thursday and Friday.

Covina meanwhile will be busy over the weekend and into next week as they tackle the Babe Herman Crescenta Valley Tournament at Glendale College’s Stengel Field. The Colts will face North Torrance there on Saturday morning (10:00 am) before hosting Pasadena (Monday 3:15 pm) and going back to Stengel on Tuesday at 1:00 pm for a match with El Segundo.
