Albright leaves Arcadia Hitless

By Josh Lowden

(Arcadia) – La Salle broke out of its scoring slump with a 5-0 victory over Arcadia as Rachel Albright tossed a no-hitter in a rare night game for both ball clubs.

Albright also had two RBI’s and three strikeouts.

“She hit her spots today,” said Lancers coach Rich Diaz. “Every time they did make contact, our infield played extremely well.”

The top of the first inning couldn’t have started better for La Salle.

Victoria Baltazar (3-for-3) and Sterling Shuster scored on successive hits by Stephanie Ferri and Madison Worley. Ferri scored the Lancers third run of the inning on a Katie Smither fly to center field.

Karlie Buller added a fourth run in the top of the second with Albright’s deep fly to center.

The Apaches squandered its opportunity to get on the board in the third. Aleena Ahmad drew a walk and Dominique Ortiz reached on an error with no outs. Albright settled in to leave the inning unscathed.

Baltazar scored her second run of the game in the sixth inning off an Albright single.

“It gives us confidence,” Diaz said of the win. “We’re going to use this momentum and hopefully get some wins in league.”

La Salle will look to get their first league win against St. Joseph of Lakewood on Tuesday at Big League Dreams in West Covina.

Arcadia will have a 13 day break and resume against Crescenta Valley on April 14.
