Corey Copping and the Rams are in control in the Rio Hondo

(San Marino) – Calvin Copping fired a complete game shutout to lead Temple City to a 4-0 win over San Marino Thursday in Rio Hondo League action.

Copping allowed six hits and did not walk a batter while fanning six in subduing the Titans. Temple City got all of its runs in the first two innings with one in the first and three more in the second.

Temple City clinched the Rio Hondo League title with the victory improving to 9-1 – a full three games ahead of second place South Pasadena with two games left. The Rams are 15-6 overall and have won even straight. San Marino fell to 5-17 and 2-9 in the Rio.

La Canada 4 Monrovia 3

(La Canada) – The Spartans picked up two runs in the sixth inning to overcome a one run deficit and beat Monrovia 4-3 Thursday.

Chris Burkholder went five and two-thirds innings for the Wildcats before being relieved by Carl Daniels. Burkholder walked four, struck out and allowed ten hits while suffering the defeat.  

Monrovia has lost eight of its last nine and has dropped to 9-13-1 overall. The Cats are 5-5 and in third place in the Rio Hondo with two games to play.
