My apologies to San Dimas as my “Schleprock” incident put me on the disabled list for the remainder of last week.
Basically walking and thinking at the same time will now be something I don’t do while trying to kill time before a game as it appears that looking for gopher holes is more important than figuring who will get the nod at one of the 12 All-Mid Valley Sports team.
None the less, I will make an attempt to head to east on the 210 to watch the Saints.
SENIOR WEEK
A Tip of the cap to some seniors that will be heading to college next year so “In the Circle” highlights some more players.
Our first year covering Diamond Bar and have yet to see them live, but Stephany La Rosa is tearing up pitching with her .504 average and six homers this season. La Rosa heads to UCLA next year after a stellar career with the Brahmas.
La Rosa is a big reason Diamond Bar is competing in the Hacienda with a shot a league title for the first time in recent memory. After going winless in the Sierra League last season the Brahmas are 8-2 and tied for the league lead along with Bonita and West Covina.
When speaking of Bonita most will know that Courtney Gano is headed to Washington, but Travel Ball teammate Breanna Sandoval is headed to a Division 1 school in the Midwest heading to Wright State.
Sandoval has been patrolling centerfield for three seasons and has been a four-year starter. This season she is perfect in the outfield with no errors. She continues to swing a hot bat with a .493 average and 23 RBI’s.
One final Hacienda League player on the spotlight is Dekota Monarrez. Her 10 homers and 22 RBI’s in 2010 helped her get a scholarship to Utah Valley State which is a member of the PCSC league in Division 1.
Monarrez has played at third base and pitched this season to help the Bulldogs get a share of first place of the Hacienda.
BACK ON TOP
San Dimas’s win over Northview assured the Saints of another Valle Vista League title its fourth in five years. Last year, San Dimas shared the league title with the Vikings.
The Saints are two years removed from playing in the CIF Championship game against Whittier Christian in which they lost 3-2 in eight innings.
Third baseman Sara Moore, shortstop Aleena Avalos and centerfielder Courtney Hine played in the finals game in 2009. Combined that day the three sophomores went 4-for-7 in that game.
Also on the squad that day were first baseman Ashley Vinsonhaler and Rightfielder Julia Lupercio who were freshman.
