Bonita Hosts Five Way Toss

Bonita QB Tanner Diebold

(La Verne) – It wasn’t the Bonita Air Assault. That’s next week. But five schools did show up late Thursday afternoon at Bonita High to throw the ball around.

Bonita welcomed defending Mid-Valley champion Monrovia along with Rancho Cucamonga, Northview and Glendora.

Last year’s hero, quarterback Nick Bueno, was on hand to watch the Wildcats, but current M-Town QB George Frazier was on a recruiting trip and was not there. Receiver/DB Anthony Craft was also absent, attending a football camp.

But Monrovia still had plenty of talented players in tow. Michael Harris, Luke Williams, Brandon Wingenbach, and Marquise Bias will make defensive coordinators sweat this fall.

Bonita’s Garrett Pendleton, who led the Bearcats to the CIF Finals last year, was also on the sidelines getting a read on this year’s squad. Pendleton, sporting a cast and all, must have been impressed with his successor. Tanner Diebold made all the throws and looked good doing it. Joey Halibrin and Aaron Burgett got in some work as well and will compete but Diebold has the edge.

Bonita has several returners from 2010 including RB Reggie Turner, WR/S Garrett Horine, and CB/WR Austin Venegas. Horine will play free safety but looks big enough to play defensive end.

Northview was just one win away from the playoffs last year and is looking to break through this season. Coach Marcel Perez, in his first year, led the Vikings to three league wins including surprising wins over Pomona and Wilson. Victor Garcia is the projected starter at quarterback.

Oh and Glendora and Rancho Cucamonga were impressive. Aren’t they always?
