The Trib's Fred Robledo schooling The Mid's Andy Villathedevil... "No Andy, it's "I" before "E", except after "C". Got it?"

Good Afternoon!

Really? Do we really have to get this uptight about the Hall of Fame game?

Bigger fish by far…It’s an exhibition game (AKA: Major Yawning Festival)…Maybe it’s just me, but football never lends itself to me as something you do for “funsies”… Football is for keeps…

So just enjoy the Hall of Fame game…

Would I have liked to see El Monte’s Michael Jimenez and Rosemead’s Matt Fregoso get a few more touches? Absolutely. Does it change anything they accomplished last fall? Absolutely not.

Speaking of absolutely, where does Matt Koffler, Marc Paramo and the rest of the Rosemead coaching staff come off mocking my haircut? They were laughing at me…

Last I checked the Panthers don’t have the quarterback Arroyo or El Monte has and Fregoso took the long walk to graduation a few weeks ago…We’ll see who’ll be laughing come the first of November…

Speaking of Steven Rivera…Arroyo went a solid 8-2 in the Bonita Air Assault over the weekend. One of the Knights losses was to Charter Oak…Not a bad thing…Rivera to Hunter Duran looked good.

Speaking of Charter Oak…Quarterback Travis Santiago looked nothing like the quarterback I last saw play when he was a sophomore.

“There’s no one better out there,” says CO HC Don Lou Farrar. “Making decisions, seeing the field, and delivering the ball.”

Always a good sign when the head coach fawns over his starting quarterback.

Last Add Rosemead: The Piper and his staff will be guesting on “The Mid Valley Sports Show” on Tuesday, July 5th…

Last Add Koffler: The former USC quarterback has decided not to throw his hat in the ring to seek the Republican nomination for President of the United States. He said it would interfere with his Saturdays down at the beach…

Speaking of quarterbacks…South El Monte’s triggerman Henry Mascorro is the “other” southpaw in the Mission Valley League….Is he Steven Rivera?…No, not many are. Can he play? Yeah, I think he can…

Southman HC Ibis Aguilar had to be happy with Mascorro’s play at the Air Assault on Friday, especially after he engineered a victory over host Bonita…Yeah, yeah, I know “Passing league doesn’t mean anything…” But can you take your foot off the neck of the Eagles for a few minutes? There wasn’t much to cheer about at “The Swamp” last season so the win over the Bearcats, runners up in the Southeast Division in 2010, was a good thing.

In the “What a Drag Department”: In 2010 Maranatha quarterback Andrew Elfers fired 37 touchdown passes, and completed 189 throws for 3,328 yards… 32 of those completions, seven of those touchdowns, and 639 of those yards went to fellow sophomore Jeremy Major… But Major has made a decision to stick with basketball this summer and fall, feeling he couldn’t give the time needed to help the Minutemen football team.

Major is a solid person and talented basketball players, we wish him nothing but the best going forward…We will miss seeing him on the field.

New Maranatha HC Pete Karavedas was last seen at a coffee shop in Pasadena listening to Hamilton, Joe Frank & Reynolds…

The Dude abides…
