Warriors Stay Perfect

By Alex Gonzalez

(La Puente) – The La Puente Warriors pounded the ball for 282 yards off of 40 carries and scored three touchdowns in a 28-13 victory over Hacienda Heights Wilson on Friday night at McIntosh Field.

Senior Nick Barrientos was the wild card for the Warriors doing a little of everything. He carried the ball 17 times for 59 yards for a score. He also caught two passes for 13 yards.

On Defense he wasn’t a shadow, ending the game with numerous tackles, a pick and a blocked point after.

Barrientos wasn’t alone, contributing was Michael Diaz with 12 carries for 88 yards and a touchdown. In addition Joey Canteno picked 128 yards off nine carries and a touchdown.

When it came time to pass Quarterback Ivan Vasquez completed 8 of 13 for 107 yards with one passing touchdown. A 35-yarder to Michael Patini.

“Credit to our O-Line tonight, they work hard in the weight room and that shows in the game. We want to wear out the defense and eat clock.” La Puente head coach Brandon Rohrer said. “Were looking forward to playing Workman next week.”

Wilson struggled in the passing game. Josh Morales completed 9 of 17 passing for 154 yards but was intercepted twice in the end zone.

Morales favorite target was receiver George Czarnack, the senior caught three balls for 41 yards. Morales and Czarnack connected on a 23 yard pass to start off the second half.

The running game was there, senior tailback J.R. Nelson ran for 91 yards off 16 carries with a score late in the fourth quarter.

“If it wasn’t for the missing blocks, mistakes after mistakes we would have had it,” Wilson head coach Bob Burt said. “Were going to keep working hard, so we can pull out a win.”

The Wildcats look to turn it around next week when they travel back to La Puente and play Nogales. And for the Warriors they look to stay perfect as they host Workman.
