Monrovia Falls to Flintridge Prep

(Monrovia) – Monrovia fell behind 3-0 in the first inning and could never recover in a 5-2 loss to Flintridge Prep Tuesday at Monrovia High. The game was called after six innings due to darkness.

Flintridge Prep scored three times in the first inning without the benefit of a hit. Nick Aparico was hit by a pitch and Will Grable walked. Spencer Rolfe was also plunked to load the bases. With two out, Aiden Tan then hit a ground ball to second that was mishandled and two runs scored. Rolfe, who was on third, scored on a wild pitch to make it 3-0.

Monrovia got one back in the third inning when Braedon Petteruto-Shine singled, stole second and scored on a single by Troy Grise.

The Wildcats added one more in the fourth inning on a double by Brayden Blackmore and an RBI single by Evan Huelstra.

The Wolves answered with two of their own to go up 5-2. Aparico reached on an error and Grable singled. Aparico scored on an error and Grable came home when a ball was hit out in front of the plate and the runner was thrown out at first.

Lucas Yin started and pitched three plus innings for Flintridge Prep before giving way to Joaquin Ochoa who threw two innings. Grable, who is a Duke commit, came on in the fifth and struck out four of the last seven batters he faced to close it out.

Monrovia used three pitchers overall. Padraic Brusseau started and was relieved in the second inning by Wyatt Barrier. Greyson Lorenzini pitched the last two innings.

Monrovia committed four errors on the day which led to their undoing.

The Wildcats won their first two games of the season but fell to 2-1 on the season with the loss.
