High Five for Cantu

[East LA] Schurr alum Aaron Cantu led East LA College to a 45-13 win over visiting Compton College Saturday night.

After Compton took an early 7-0 lead, Cantu went to work driving the Huskies down the field capping it off with a Luis O’Neil 1-yard touchdown run.

Just like at Schurr, Cantu showed off his arm to follow Spartan alum Carlos Arredondo for a 41-yard touchdown to paydirt to make it 13-7 just before the end of the first quarter.

The Huskies scored 20 more points in the second quarter, led by Cantu’s two touchdown passes and another O’Neil touchdown run to make it 33-7 at the half.

Cantu wasn’t ready to let up throwing touchdown passes of 12 and 4-yards in the second half to put the game out of reach at 45-7 midway through the fourth quarter.

Compton showed one last sign of life on an 80-yard kickoff return to make it 45-13 after a missed extra point.

Cantu finished the night 24 of 33 for 367-yards and 5-touchdowns. Arredondo, who broke the schools single season receptions record, finished with 7-catches for 104-yards and his score.

ELAC (6-3, 4-0) claims at least a share of the conference and will hit the road next week and face San Bernardino.
