(San Marino) – Even when its best player isn’t 100 percent, Muir can still put points up on a scoreboard. Seeing limited minutes Emoni Jackson watched from the sidelines as her teammates ran away from Morningside 66-11.
The Mustangs defense shutdown the Monarchs in the first and final quarter while being able to score 40-first half points enroute to the victory.
Tanniya Sweat picked up the scoring slack for Jackson with 15 points and Jackson in small doses poured in 11.
Muir did survive the physical contest as Morningside found foul trouble from the whistle until late in the third quarter when Shawawn Baldwin was called for a flagrant on Sweat.
If there was any doubt in the game, it came early while the Mustangs were milking a 6-0 lead midway through the first quarter. After a timeout, Muir awakened with 24 unanswered points before the Monarchs managed to get on the scoreboard.
The closest Morning got to scoring in the first quarter was a pair of free throws from Krishawna Barker.
The Monarchs finally scored with 3:55 remaining as Ronnesha Harvey’s jumpshot banked in to cut the lead to 30-2.
Barker led Morningside in scoring with six. All came in the third quarter.
Now the Mustangs face San Marino for a shot at the SGV Classic title on Friday.
