Fedor Emelianenko Signs with Strikeforce

By George Hernandez

After the  #1 heavyweight and best pound for pound fighter in the world Fedor Emelianenko couldn’t finalize a deal with the worlds #1 MMA promotion the UFC, Fedor signed a multi-fight deal with the UFC’s biggest competition Strikeforce.

After the fall of Affliction’s MMA brand last week, everyone thought there would be no doubt that Fedor was headed to the UFC. The UFC president Dana White was not willing to co-promote with Fedor’s management M-1 Global.

So Fedor jumped right in the heavyweight title picture. The current champion is Alistair Overeem who hasn’t defended his title since he won it in November 2007. Overeem was supposed to fight Fabricio Werdum August 15 but pulled out due to injury.

Fedor’s only competition in Strikeforce besides Overeem and Werdum will be undefeated Brett Rogers and veteran Paul Buentello.
