Because we committed to watching film, consulting coaches—especially along the offensive line—it took a lot of time for us to nail it down. It might not be our most popular all Mid-Valley team, but we believe it may be one of our best. You fight over it, we’re done fighting. Like always, no second or third teams.
Quarterback: Steven Rivera (Arroyo)
(Note: Sure we could have made Rivera a safety or punter, but he’s a quarterback. So that sort of jammed things up for other very worthy quarterbacks like Livingston, Guerrero, Martinez, Elfers, and Heyworth.
Running Back: Marquis Bias (Monrovia)
Running Back: Sir-Darius Yabrough (Pomona)
Running Back: Desmond Reed (Azusa)
(Note: This was not unanimous because there were so many guys to include in the debate. We omitted a tight end to get these three.)
Wide Receiver: Alex Villalobos (San Gabriel)
Wide Receiver: Hunter Duran (Arroyo)
(Note: Was not how we saw it originally, but after being boiled down these two emerged.)
LT: Kevin Spencer (Monrovia)
LG: Phil Romano (Covina)
C: Ryan Wallace (Whittier Christian)
RG: William Anguiano (San Dimas)
RT: Daniel Camarena (Rosemead)
(Note: Probably the team we feel best about because of the time invested.)
Kicker/Punter: Mason Bryant (Monrovia)
(Note: Saying this kid was dangerous with just his foot isn’t enough, he’s dangerous with his feet and turns the “Punt” into another offensive play.)
DE: Jesse Ojeda (San Dimas)
DT: Carlos Purser (San Gabriel)
DT: Nick Hynes (Covina)
(Note: Start yelling.)
OLB: Ruben Jimenez (El Monte)
ILB: Brett Walsh (Monrovia)
ILB: Johnny Padilla (Covina)
OLB: George Frazier (Monrovia)
(Note: Lot of good players were left off this unit.)
CB: Anthony Craft (Monrovia)
CB: Vinnie Venegas (Covina)
FS: Devante Brown (San Dimas)
SS: Andre Kerkhoff (Arroyo)
(Note: Great secondary; hitters & defenders)
Kick Returner: Darien McGee (Maranatha)
Punt Returner: De’Shawn Ramirez (Monrovia)
(Note: Did we miss somebody?)
Patrick Perrigue All Purpose Award
De’Shawn Ramirez (Monrovia): Had a great season, got better as it went on, and literally did it all for the CIF Champions.
