Arroyo's Anthony Portillo and Danny Villalobos of Rosemead get ready for a rebound

(Rosemead) – Arroyo used a 14-0 run to open the third quarter and went on to rout Rosemead 48-29 Wednesday night in Mission Valley League action.

Primitivo Gomez and Edgar Lupercio both knocked down threes during the blitz and Alex Arriaga hit a couple of buckets down in the paint. The Knights outscored the Panthers 15-4 in the quarter to take a 41-18 lead from which Rosemead could never recover.

Lupercio led Arroyo with 15 and Gomez added 14 to pave the way. Arriaga was also in double figures with 10.  

Danny Villalobos led all scorers with 17 points for Rosemead including eight in the fourth quarter. No other Panther was in double figures.

Arroyo got out of the gate quickly scoring 19 points in the first quarter. Lupercio (seven) and Gomez combined for 11 in the quarter. The Knight defense turned it up a notch in the second holding the Panthers to just two points to take a 12 point lead into the break.

The Arroyo run to open the third then ended any suspense.

Arroyo improved to 3-0 in the MVL and will face South El Monte Friday night. Rosemead dropped to 1-2 in league and will travel to Mt. View to face the Vikings Friday.
