(We asked some local coaches where they saw high school sports/football being in the next ten years.)
“I think you could see more sports going the way of gymnastics or badminton and being phased out of the high school landscape as funding gets tougher and tougher.
Some sports that are “club” driven such as soccer, baseball, softball and volleyball may see more kids leaving their limited funded high school teams, in favor of better funded traveling teams.
I absolutely think that because of hiring freezes, etc you will begin to see more and more head coaches that are walk-on’s. There was a time not long ago that if you weren’t on-campus you couldn’t even get an inteview for a head job.
I think the landscape of athletics will be significanlty different than it is today and I dont believe those changes will be in the best interest of the student/athletes.”
