Adrian Soto looks for a lane against Gladstone

(Covina) – Workman used a 9-0 run to open the third quarter and then shut out Gladstone completely in the fourth to cruise to a 48-28 win over the Gladiators Friday night to clinch the Montview League title.

The Lobos outscored G-Stone 25-5 in the second half to break open a game that was tied at 23 at the half. Adrian Soto scored three consecutive buckets in the fourth quarter off of steals and breaks that led to a Gladstone timeout, but by that time the game was over.

Soto led all scorers with 24 points including 16 in the first half.

The Gladiators, after a big second quarter in which they outscored the Lobos 18-8, went stone cold in the second half making just two of 18 shots including 0 for 7 in the fourth quarter.

Meanwhile Workman heated up in the third hitting seven of 11 from the floor and pulling away.

Ben Reaves kept Gladstone close in the first half with a pair of threes and eight points in the second quarter. Joe Fernandez, Anthony Cisneros and Eddie Servin also buried shots from long distance. G-Stone hit seven threes overall but only one in the second half.

Osnar Garcia had a big third quarter for Workman with seven points to help the Lobos secure the win. Soto was the only player in double figures for Workman but Garcia with eight, Guillermo “Chino” Lopez (7) and Tyler Bernardino made key contributions.

Reaves led Gladstone with eight points, Servin added seven and Erick Martinez scored five.

Workman finished 13-1 in the Montivew to claim the crown and 20-7 overall. Gladstone was 7-7 in league, good for fourth. The Gladiators were 13-11 on the season.
