Maranatha’s McGee Signs with Trinity

Maranatha Minuteman standout Darien McGee has signed his letter of intent to play football at Trinity International University in Chicago next fall.

He accepted the offer over Mid America Nazarene in Kansas.

“We are very happy for him. The school is a wonderful environment and a perfect fit for Darien. What my husband and I like most about Trinity is character and integrity come first and we heard that from the president of the school to the professors to the current students,” said McGee’s mom Saleama Rubalcava. “The Head Football Coach said character and integrity is priority on and off the football field and that spoke volumes to us. He said that winning is important but character is key.”

McGee has made huge strides since he first started playing football in high school.

“He had very little playing time until his senior year and when he was given an opportunity he made the best of it. Not only did he get a football scholarship, but he is going to a wonderful institution of high learning. We are very proud of him,” Ruvalcaba said.

When McGee visited Trinity and stayed on campus, his roommate was Stephen Anderson from Whittier Christian.

McGee caught 45 passes for 662 yards and seven touchdowns his senior year. He also rushed for 209 yards and five touchdowns. He returned kicks as well and brought one back for 100 yards.
