“The Across America Edition”

Good Morning!

T-minus-24 until “The Mid Valley Classic”

Game Eight: September 11, 1987 at Arroyo

The Knights get their first win over the Rams in 31 years. New TC Coach Jim Walker’s debut is ruined as Paco Chavez catches two touchdown passes from Willie Reyna, and Mike Ayon adds another in Arroyo’s 20-0 win. Mike Mooney is held to 50-yards. The Knights return to the CIF finals before falling to Cajon. Temple City misses the playoffs, and suffers its first losing season since 1959.

I remember that night really well, I spent it at Aztec Field covering Keppel’s 13-7 barn burner over Mayfair.

You know…I have had it up to here with the Cardinals…As anyone ever thought of putting one in Albert Pujols’ ear?

Read a Yahoo headline saying something about the Eagles possibly playing McNabb and Vick at the same time…Nooo Kidding? I never in my wildest dreams thought that was possible…McNabb and Vick together? Forget it…

In regards to yesterday’s column about Monrovia winning CIF on its eighth try…would the world stop revolving, spinning slowly down to die, if such a thing happened?

Think about this, the Dodgers did lose their first seven World Series appearances before winning the eighth time around in 1955…you can look it up…or trust me…either way works.

Back on the road again…heading to Nashville…

The rain came down sideways yesterday on our way to Wake Forest, and the thunder sounded like cannonade from the Civil War…So I got my weather…I believe it’s a normal occurrence to arrive at the mall and have the parking lot completely underwater…

It must be so discouraging to be an Oakland Raider fan…

Speaking of discouragement, I know the feeling when your starting quarterback breaks the pinky finger on his right hand and is replaced by Kyle Boller?

Boller? Doesn’t Steve DeBerg or Vince Evans have anything left? I’ll take Dave Krieg at this point…

At the Cracker Barrel last night an employee came over to me as I was looking at some of the UNC stuff and she said; “I’m from Louisiana, these people sure don’t know football here do they?” I don’t know how she knew I was from California, but it was like she smelled it on me…or maybe she saw the license plate…or maybe she heard me talking on the phone and use the word “Dude” one time too many.

Stay thirsty my friends…
