(Alhambra) – What was reported earlier here on Mid Valley Sports has become official. Alhambra has named Joe Kanach as the new Head Coach pending a background check.
Kanach went 7-13 the last two seasons at Hawthorne, and has also had coaching stops as an assistant at Harvard-Westlake, Concord De La Salle and Burbank Burroughs and out of state in Oregon. He played on the college level at Westpoint and Tulane.
Kanach, who stepped down at Hawthorne at the conclusion of last season, runs a spread attack and was responsible for snapping the Cougars 45 game losing streak in 2010.
Kanach has his teaching credential and there is a possibility that he could become a teacher at Alhambra in the fall.
Other names mentioned in the running for the Moors job were former Hoover HC and current Arcadia DC Chris Long, as well as former Northview and Los Altos HC Jim Arellanes.
Kanach will replace Lou Torres who resigned in January.
