Apaches Open Rancho Tourney with Win

(Rancho Cucamonga) – Arcadia opened the Rancho Cucamonga Cougar Classic tournament play with a 3-0 shutout over San Gorgonio Monday. Erik Trask got the win for Arcadia (4-1), who was led offensively by Troy Resch (2 for 4) and Darren Kerfoot (2 for 3).

Trask threw five shutout innings and allowed just two hits while fanning seven. Nick Sergi and Andrew Cordeiro finished up. The Apaches play Tuesday at Rancho Cucamonga
at 3:00 p.m.

Rancho also posted a shutout to start the tourney, beating Jurupa Hills 7-0. Taylor Grace went 4 for 4 with 3 runs and 2 doubles. Rudy Castillo was nearly flawless on the hill for the Cougars in a 6 inning 1 hit shutout. He faced and retired the minimum 15 batters through 5 innings with 7 strikeouts. Matt Baeza authoritatively shut the door in the seventh inning for the save.
