Rio Hondo Wrap Up; Rams, Cats Win

Temple City 2 San Marino 0

(Temple City) – Temple City has yet to taste defeat so far and ran its winning streak to 10 straight with a 2-0 victory over San Marino Tuesday in a key Rio Hondo league contest. The Rams improved to 10-0-1 and 3-0 in league while the Titans are 9-2 overall and 2-1 in the RHL.

Corey Copping faced two-on situations in four separate innings but, thanks in part to a solid infield, battled his way out of them all with two grounders, a double play, and strikeout, eventually posting a complete game three hit shutout that featured seven strikeouts and 118 total pitches. Copping also contributed at the plate as well, going 2 for 3 with a double and RBI pop drop single that Gabriel Juarez took advantage of to score the first run. Ben Arrue punched through the other RBI hit for TC in the fourth.

The Titans had a big opportunity in the second after drawing two one-out walks and loading the bases with 2 outs on a hit by Garrett Glazier, but a runner’s interference call on the ensuing batter’s act, a slow hopping drive towards second, ended the inning. Temple City shortstop Cameron Le Grand charged for the scoop and collided with a speeding Glazier chest up. Both fell back-head first but returned to action immediately. Glazier, a key component of the Titans’ pitching staff, was rested the last three innings.

San Marino starter Jeff Bain had five Ks, including two called-third strikes to start the fifth stanza before being taken out after Jonah Jarrard’s long single to the right field corner, eventually taking the loss having yielded five hits and two error-aided unearned runs. Garrett Young arrived and went unscathed for four straight outs. Bain and Jarrard added a little intrigue to the game as both play for and are returning starters (pitcher, catcher – respectively) of the Arroyo Seco Saints summer club team based out of Brookside Park in Pasadena.
