La Canada Hires James Sims as New Head Coach

New La Canada HC James Sims

(La Canada) La Canada High School has made a decision on who will lead the Spartan football team next year.  It’s James Sims.

Coach Sims comes to La Canada after a successful football career in Florida, where he most recently coached at Hawthorne High School in Jacksonville.  Hawthorne high school (6-12) is one of the smallest schools in Florida, which Coach Sims feels will help him relate to the culture of La Canada. For his career, his record is 75 – 63 in 12 years, running multiple offenses and defenses.

    Hey Coach,
Congrats on the new hire. My son played played ball in 9th and 10th grade.Passed playing in the 11th grade due to problems with a certain coach. He loved playing with the TEAM and was a starter both ways. I will be there to hear what you have to say. “Unfortunate” posts sounds like a sour apple…I am sure you will do great!

Why are you trying to vilify someone you don’t even know?

Coach Sims inherits a program that has very smart kids…what LC needs is people to show up to more than just Basketball and Water Polo games.

What division was the team that knocked him out of the playoffs in round ONE this year and held him to ZERO points? What week is Monrovia again? How about San Marino?

Mr unfortunate don’t let records fool you. Coach Sims in 12 years participated in 7 district championship games. The majority of his losses were non league games where he took on bigger opponents to gain experience and exposure for his kids. He was at a 1A school and played (3) 4A schools, the 2A undefeated state champion North Florida Christian that would run through 95% of the schools in california, Bolles High School that is national rank and has 13 state chapionships, and Madison County which if you know anything about Florida football you dont normally schedule madison county unless you have to. While at the larger 6A schools they were 9-1 and one year was undefeated until they lost their starting QB in week 7 for the season. He was respected enough by his peers to be elected to the Florida Georgia All Star Staff and named coach of the year after taking over a team that went 3-27 over 3 years and won the district championship his first year in the program. You also frown upon a lifetime record over .500 like that is a negative. There is not many coaches on any level who can say that. I would love to hear the records of the coaches you claim got looked over and who their opponents were.

La Canada kids ALREADY take care of businees in the classroom. The school and community ALREADY a class act. What else can this guy have that LC needed? Certainly not assistant coaches of any sort. “Marching orders?” there are some good coaches on the staff! This smells bad. Question: WHY IS THE WORD MULTIPLE UNDERLINED? I think “multiple” contributed to the .500 record.

La Canada has a class act in, not just a coach, but a mentor who truely cares about “his kids” on and off the field. Unlike coaches that my son played for over the years, coach Sims goes above and beyond to see that kids go to college and he never lets them go by the wayside. I dont know how he has time in one day for himself after giving his all to the kids. La Canada is a very lucky group of young men!

    Coach Mac,

Your praise sets a high bar for Sims, and if you are 75% correct, LC is in good shape. I hope so.
I thought Yoder was both a fine JV and Varsity football coach and I wish him well.

    To whom it may concern,
This is what makes me as a Coach, so crazy. I understand that you are looking at his record. “Unfortunately”, you made a big mistake in your “apology “. This is a coach that not only wins on the field but off the field. He will build a football program that will be” FIRST CLASS”, all the time. (On the field as well as off the field) his coaches will have their marching orders and the “Goal” is to make each student successful in the class room as well as on the field, and in life itself.
He will wear his mission on his shirt every day, there will be no mistake on the success he wants for his players. As a former assistance coach, I learned what it took to be a coach, 6 years; I stood by Coach Sims at practice and during games… I am a better person because of what he taught me.

He is a Coach that leaves nothing for interpretation, he will coach your son and he will teach his coaches. He always will listen to your thoughts and concerns, Player to Coach, Coach to Coach, Parent to Coach.
LaCanda, congratulation! Your committee hired a coach that will make your “VERY PROUD” as a school and in you endeavors to have a First Class Football Team”

Lifetime .500 record? or barely a wining record? 5-6 this last season? An apology should go out to all local guys that got passed over. This is great news for the rest of the league. Temple City and South Pasadena now playing for 3rd place. Blair and La Canada will battle last game of the season for LAST place! CLASSIC!
