Alahambra Headed to Roosevelt in East LA

Alahambra Headed to Roosevelt in East LA

All game times are 7 PM unless otherwise noted

Thursday September 3

La Puente (0-0) at Gabrielino (0-0)

Last Year: Gabrielino 12-0

Both teams have new coaches and both teams are struggling. LP is looking to get off the floor after a disastrous 2008. Expect a low scoring, ground and pound affair. I’ll go with Gabby at home.

Gabrielino 14 La Puente 7

Garey (0-0) at Azusa (0-0)

Was last year an Azusa aberration? Joe Scherf and crew hope not. Aztecs get off on the right foot.

Azusa 21 Garey 13

Friday September 4

Arcadia (0-0) at Monrovia (0-0)

Last Year: Arcadia 41-27

Monrovia has Nick Bueno and Desean Ramirez to make things happen. Arcadia has Garrett Tuck and Taylor Legace. Like last year there should be some points put up.

  Monrovia 34 Arcadia 24

Cathedral (0-0) at San Gabriel (0-0) – Moor Field

Cathedral in Los Angeles always comes to play. At least it isn’t Serra. The Matadors are forced to play at Moor Field since their new digs aren’t yet finished. But it’s still a home game. I’ll go with the home cooking and the Mid Valley Karma

San Gabriel 27 Cathedral 24

Diamond Ranch (0-0) at Muir (0-0)

Last Year: 9/5/08 Muir 16-6, CIF Playoffs 1st Round: Diamond Ranch 21-7

Muir lost more in June than Diamond Ranch. The Mustangs are breaking in a new field as well but it won’t be enough. Amari Staten, Brandon Taylor and company get it done.

Diamond Ranch 31 Muir 17

Mt. View (0-0) at Workman (0-0) La Puente H.S.

We aren’t sending Derek Cheng to this one so the lights won’t go out. Kalin Bradford and Workman are actually hoping for a playoff spot in 2009. Lobos win the opener.

Workman 16 Mt. View 13

Nogales (0-0) at Baldwin Park (0-0)

This is Baldwin Park’s year. At least that’s what we see early. Manny Salcedo and Christian Lazaro combine for a big night. BP rolls!

Baldwin Park 35 Nogales 14

Norwalk (0-0) at South El Monte (0-0)

A lot of experts think South El Monte misses the playoffs again this year. Ray Hernandez has taken over as coach but there is no Manny Acosta, Jose Garay or even Neiko Padilla to be seen. Norwalk is a tough way to get things started. South falls in opener

Norwalk 21 South El Monte 13.

San Dimas (0-0) at Los Altos (0-0)

Last Year: San Dimas 27-16

Expect a much improved Los Altos team to hit the field Friday night. Los Altos has a returning quarterback and a big time receiver in Ryan Longoria. San Dimas is going to be okay. I’ll take LA in the upset.

Los Altos 20 San Dimas 17

West Covina (0-0) at El Rancho (0-0)

Last Year: West Covina 36-15

ER will not be able to keep up with the Johnsons. Ricky and George will have a field day. The WC gets it going early.

West Covina 31 El Rancho 14

Alhambra (0-0) at Roosevelt (0-0)

First Meeting

El Cid vs. Rudy as old friends get together in East LA.  “It’s going to be a war in Boyle Heights Friday night,” was the text message I received from an Alhambra assistant coach the other day. I believe it. I also believe Alhambra has a little too much. Moors win in zero week.

Alhambra 27 Roosevelt 20.

Gardena (0-0) at Charter Oak (0-0)

If Gardena can get a score early…or maybe force a turnover and make a few stops…or pull a gadget play and…c’mon who am I kidding? CO…Big…

Charter Oak 38 Gardena 7
