(Covina)- Charter Oak’s Robert Poage kicked a 31-yard field goal with five minutes left in the game to give the Chargers a 15-14 victory over visiting Gardena on Friday night.

Poage added two other field goals from 25-yards each to aid the CO attack.

Gardena scored first with a 69-yard run by quarterback Emmanual Oseguera. They would go for two points and converted.

Oseguera would finish the game with 13 carries for 140 yards, but would only complete 1 of 6 for one yard through the air. Both teams relied heavily on the run.

The Panthers led going at the half 8-3, though they never had a drive go past the 50 other than the Oseguera run.

After a sluggish start the Chargers on their first play of the second-half and scored on a 27-yard run by Adam Muema. They would take the lead 9-8 after a missed two-point conversion.

Gardena fumbled midway through the third and CO would add to its lead with a field goal by Poage.

Trailing 12-8 Gardena would put together an 11 play drive, capped with 48-yard rushing touchdown by Oseguera. The Panthers would regain the lead at 14-12 with eight minutes remaining in the game.

Muema, who rushed for 150 yards on 25 carries, would take over and rushed for 31 yards to help set up Poage for the game winner.
