Maranatha Gets in the Passing Mix

Maranatha QB Andrew Elffers getting ready for a big senior season

(Pasadena) – Maranatha threw against other teams for the first time Thursday as Azusa, Crescenta Valley and Western Christian joined the Minutemen on their campus.

“It was our first time out so we had a lot of dropped balls, etc. but we’ll be all right,” said Maranatha Coach Pete Karavedas.

Maranatha’s OC Michael Owens was more concerned about other things. “We’re in that new division now. Who’s going to cover us?” he wanted to know. Don’t worry Coach we still got you.

Quarerback Andrew Elffers, who is receiving D-1 offers was impressive as usual but Eli Snyder, the back up also got in some reps. Troy French made a great catch of an Elffers bomb and Michael Cornell also played well at receiver. Maranatha is set at running back with Omar Younger but junior Baile McDavid is going to get the ball as well. Keep an eye on SS/WR Reid Pike.

Senior Jose Ledesma and Carlos Montiel were throwing the ball for Azusa. Ledesma looks like the guy for Joe Scherf’s Aztecs.  “We call him Lemoresma because we want more not less from him,” Scherf said with a laugh.

Junior Jacob Ramos made several big plays for Azusa.

As always here’s some shots.
