(Hacienda Heights)- “The Dirty 30”, the squad with four turnovers, the team San Dimas head coach Bill Zernickow thought looked the worst he had ever seen in helmet and pads on Wednesday, was the  team scoring a convincing 33-6 win over Los Altos on Friday night.

“I’m just so proud of my team,” said a smiling Zernickow. “We’ve only been able to have a full practice once in the last week and it was awful. To come out like this is great.”

For Los Altos, trying to bounce back from a one win season in 2008 in front of a capacity crowd, the high point came at the 9:31 mark of the second quarter when Andrew Yamakawa scored from three-yards out on fourth and goal.

It was the Conquerors second fourth down conversion of the drive which began at the San Dimas  40 following a Saints fumble. The point after was missed.

Getting the ball back at its 23 San Dimas gave it to Tre Evans who went left through the line and shredded multiple tackles as he covered 77-yards to paydirt. A dive into the end zone brought a yellow flag, and the extra point became a 34-yard boot for Dillon Corona. SD led 7-6.

Corona, a sophomore, would score on a 17-yard run three minutes later and knock home a 28-yard field goal at end of the half to make it 16-6 Saints.

The Saints delivered the clincher on a 14-play, 88-yard drive to start the second half, eating over six minutes of clock, which Jordan Taylor capped with a 10-yard run.

“These kids know how to win,” Zernickow said. “They played their hearts out.”

In the fourth quarter Corona kicked a 26-yard field goal and Ryan Kohler added six more on a two-yard push into the end zone.

The bludgeoning Kohler finished with 129-yards on 19-carries, Corona 112 on nine. New starting quarterback Shawn Kennedy managed affairs.

QB Justin Zamano was a bright spot in a long Los Altos night.

Los Altos quarterback Justin Zamano was 10 of 20 for 128, but could never find a rhythm against the SD defense.

“Our defense was nails,” said Zernickow in praise of the unit producing five punts, four sacks, and three turnovers. “It is much improved.”

San Dimas is home next week against South El Monte, while the Conquerors, losers of 15 of their last 16 games, is home against Northview.
