Whittier Christian, Arcadia and G-Stone at Arroyo

Whittier Christian QB Ryan Esslinger

(El Monte) – Whittier Christian, Arcadia and Gladstone were the latest schools to make their way to Arroyo on Thursday to chuck the ball around. You know the drill. Here’s a few notes and some shots…

Arcadia Transfer QB Joey Harmon is competing for the starting job

South Pasadena transfer Joey Harmon got in some reps for Arcadia. Zach Yee took most of the snaps early and Harmon came on later and threw against Arroyo. He seemed to making all the reads and looked confident throwing the ball. He certainly makes things interesting at Arcadia. Where Yee was definitely the guy before now the Apaches have a decision to make. Right now it’s a competition. We’ll probably never know the exact reason why Harmon transferred (do we ever about any transfers?) but word is that Harmon wasn’t too hip on South Pasadena’s run first offense.

Senior TE/DL Jonathan Hopkins (former TCA little leaguer -Red Sox) is looking to have a big year for Arcadia as is DE Joseph Haines (brother of Arcadia standout Robbie Haines – class of 2012.) Robbie Haines will be playing at Citrus College in the fall.

Arroyo QB Chaz Miller

Junior Ryan Esslinger is taking over at quarterback for the graduated Daniel Chacon at Whittier Christian. The Heralds will be without receiver Cody Bronkar for a few weeks. Bronkar sufferred a leg injury at combine and is in a soft cast. Bronkar recently received an offer from the Air Force Academy.

Sophomore Joseph Haines and Senior Jonathan Hopkins

Nathan Coto and Chaz Miller are both still bucking for the starting quarterback job although Coto got most of the action Thursday and has emerged as the frontrunner. HC Jim Singiser likes his defense.

At Gladstone Kevin Amezquita is the guy…
