1. Joseph Diaz Jr. wins his first Olympic bout and will now face Cuba’s Lazaro Alvarez Estrada in the second round on Wednesday.

2. El Monte’s Kim Rhode wins the Gold in skeet shooting and sets a record of winning a medal in five straight Olympic Games.

3. Dodgers sweep the Giants in San Francisco to regain a tie for first place.

4. Schurr at Buena Park August 30th.

5. Former Washington Redskin and actor Terry Crews turns 44 today.

6. Cal’s returning leading tackler is Aaron Licon who posted 42 to go along with two sacks.

7. Zack Greinke loses his Angel debut 2-0.

8. On this day in 1960 the AFL played its first preseason game with the Boston Patriots defeating the Buffalo Bills 28-7.

9. Whittier Cardinals return leading rusher Kevin Ramirez 407 yards and four scores.

    Congrats to Joseph Diaz, Jr. and his family. Watched him on your Live Show and seems like a great young man who has worked very hard for this opportunity. Hope he was able to raise enough funds to get some of this family to London! MVN – would love to see you keep us informed of his progress toward a medal…sometimes boxing gets buried below more popular events! Hope you get your dream come true Joseph!

    Did you mean to say Monrovia’s Kim Rhodes? She has been a Monrovian for the past 20 or so years. Kim Rhode of Monrovia became the first American to win individual medals in five straight Olympics when she took…
