MVS Collegiate Top Ten…Plus

1.  Alabama–   Not a big Nick Saban fan but a solid win over a quality opponent in Virginia Tech does wonders for national standings.

 2.  USC –  Did what they needed to do against an inferior opponent.  Crushed them!  San Jose State may not be Ohio State or Va Tech but they aren’t Charleston Southern or Louisiana Monroe either.

3.  Texas –   Would have remained higher in this poll but Louisiana Monroe?  Come on Big Mack.  Sure you blasted them but should these guys even be on your schedule?

4.  Florida–  Charleston Southern?  You’re kidding me right?  Let me guess, the Rosemead Rebels weren’t available?  Let’s go Urban, get rid of the cupcakes!

 5.  OK State–   Solid win over a D1 opponent in Georgia but lets not get swept up in the Cowboy craze just yet.  This was a Georgia team without the likes of Matthew Stafford and Knowshon Moreno.

 6.  Ole Miss–   Solid win over an okay Memphis squad.  Jevan Snead rebounds from a rocky start to throw for 175 yards and two touchdowns.  Look out there are some Cougars looking over your shoulder as we speak.

 7.  BYU –  Huge win over  preseason #3 Oklahoma vaults Cougars into the top ten and throws a monkey wrench into the BCS machine.  Other polls have them a bit lower but we give BYU props for signing Lee Aguirre!

8.  Cal–   Getting a win over Maryland is nice but the Terps are wondering if Boomer Esaison and Shawn Merriman still have any eligibility left.

9.  Ohio St.-     A four point win over Navy?  Now the Midshipmen are perennially the best of the military academies but no way this game should have been that close.  Can anyone tell me what Ricky Dobbs was looking at?

 10.  Penn St.-   See Florida and Texas.  Joe Pa, I hear Huxley is looking for a week two game next year.  If they are not available, try Vasser.

Plus:  others in the top 25 recognized for local talent.

Cincinnati – Huge win over Rutgers.  Armon Binns (Pasadena) gets four catches for 41 yards!

Oregon State- Solid win over intrastate rival Portland State.  Lance Mitchell (Muir) seven tackles in the win.
