Coyotes Chase Away Spartans

Spartans are happy they won’t have to see Devin Boston again!

(Buena Park) The Schurr Spartans were held to 182 yards of total offense and no touchdowns in a 35-0 loss to the Buena Park Coyotes on the road Thursday night.

On the other side of the ball the Spartan defense had the daunting task of stopping Devin Boston coming off a five touchdown performance last week. It was a long night for Schurr as Boston ran for 218 yards on 23 carries and added four more touchdowns.

The Spartan offense behind starting quarterback Rudy Madrid struggled early to find offensive consistency and were forced to punt on four of their first five drives while Buena Park scored on three of their first four.

The Coyotes got on the board with 7:55 in the first taking the opening drive 46 yards with Boston capping the drive with two yard run.

A Boston 44 yard run and a 27 yard pass from Travis Hood to Jaylinn Hawkins put the Spartans down 21-0 with 5:41 left in the first half.

After making some adjustments, the Schurr defense stepped up and stopped the Coyotes on their next five consecutive drives and it wasn’t until 2:44 left in the third quarter before Buena Park saw paydirt again.

The lone highlight and the longest play from scrimmage for the Spartans came on a 37 yard scamper by Able Troncoza. Troncoza finished the night with 51 yards on four carries.

Eric Perez was the leading ground gainer for Schurr managing 58 tough yards on 18 carries.

After the game Schurr head coach Marco Ramirez spoke about his teams performance. “We struggled in the first half with consistency with our offense. In the second half we did a little better but we still need to get better. We gave up two touchdowns early but we made some adjustments at halftime and played much better.”

Schurr returns home for their next two games but it doesn’t get any easier as next up is Downey followed by Diamond Ranch.
