(La Puente)- Pernall Smalley led the Colts to a 41-16 win over La Puente, with 3-touchdowns Thursday night.

After a scoreless first quarter Smalley got Covina on the board first with a 7-yard touchdown run.

The Warriors answered back late in the second when quarterback Ivan Vasquez connected with Noel Martinez on a 82-yard touchdown to paydirt.

Colts hit them right back in the mouth with a 44-yard touchdown pass from Emilo Zertuche to Christian Padilla to make it 14-6, after a Smalley two point conversion was successful.

La Puente kicker Luis Chacaucano made it 14-9 after he hit a 30-yard field goal.

Covina made it 21-9 after Smalley’s second touchdown from 4-yards out.

Warriors got the closes they would get when Martinez took the returning kick to the house from 85-yards out to make it 21-16.

Colts went on a 20 to 0 run led by rushing scores from Smalley and Frankie Ramirez and a 18-yard reception from Padilla.

Zertuche finished 9 of 11 for 130-yard 2-touchdowns and 1-interception. Defense was led by Darren Torres and Michael Peters who each had a pick.

La Puente’s Vasquez went 5 of 12 for 103-yards 1-touchdown 2-interceptions, he also picked a pass on defense.

Coupled with a forfeit win from last week’s game against West Covina, the C-Town is now 2-0. The Warriors are 0-1.
