Lancers Win Shootout Over Brahmas

(Norwalk)- Rashaad Penny rushed for 257-yards, had 84 yards in receptions and scored three touchdowns in Norwalk’s 52-38 win over Diamond Bar Friday night at Excelsior Stadium.

Lancers got on the board first midway through the opening quarter when Penny broke through the Brahmas defense for a 75-yard touchdown to paydirt to make it 7-0.

Diamond Bar showed they could run the ball as well with 20 unanswered points. Tyron Kelley, Tyler Brown and Austin Szulczewki all scored on the ground to give the Brahmas a 20-7 lead after the first quarter.

Late in the second quarterNorwalk’s Malcom McAllister busted a 58-yard run to make it 20-13.

Diamond Bar scored just over a minute later when quarterback Tyler Peterson found Kanya Bell for a 31-yard scamper to the endzone to put them up 26-13.

The Lancers scored two more times late in the second quarter in just over a minute with runs from McAllister and Penny to make it 27-26 at the half.

D-Bar took the lead back in their first drive of the third quarter when Peterson found a wide open Bell again for a 32-27 lead.

Penny put Norwalk back on top when he caught a 70-yard touchdown from Jacquise Hooper making it 33-32 early in the third.

Bell responded for Diamond Bar when he sliced through the Lancers defense for his third touchdown of the game, a 65-yarder, that put the Brahmas up 38-33.

Norwalk wasn’t ready to fold and the Lancers scored again in the third and two more times in the fourth with a pair of touchdowns from Bryan Sullivan and another from   McAllister making it 52-38.

The defense picked it up in the second half for Norwalk with interceptions from Nick Fernandez and Matthew Ortega. Sullivan had three blocked extra points and linebacker Martin Jimenez was all over the field.

Sullivan finished with 69-yards rushing and two touchdowns, McAllister had 112-yards on the ground and three scores. Quarterback Hooper went 2 of 3 for 84-yards and a touchdown for the Lancers.

Diamond Bar quarterback Peterson went 14 of 30 for 218-yards three touchdowns and two interceptions. Kelley (125-yards, TD), Brown (115-yards, TD) lead the team on the ground Bell had 6-catches for 154-yards three touchdowns, and Cordell Broadus had four catches for 30-yards.

Lancers (2-0) travel toWarren, while the Brahmas (0-2) go home to face Don Lugo.
