Glendale 21, La Canada 3

The Nitros (1-1, 0-0) rebounded from their opening week loss to La Salle by dominating the Spartans (1-1, 0-0) Friday night at Glendale High.

The Nitros held serve after the first half, leading 7-3 on Alex Jung’s six-yard score in the first quarter. The Spartans could only manage a 29-yard field goal by Mario Del Cueto in the second. The second half proved the key for the Nitros as quarterback Kevin Felix pulled two scores from his bag of tricks, hitting receiver Michael Davis for 10-yard scores in the third and fourth quarters.

Gabrielino 44, Keppel 0

The sting of last year’s 13-0 loss was on the mind of the Eagles (3-0, 0-0) as they handed the Aztecs (0-3, 0-0) their second shutout of the season Friday night at Gabrielino.

Quarterback Elijah Peters powered the Eagles with 186 yards in the air and three touchdowns, as well as a fourth score on the ground himself.  Cameryn Matthews caught two of his three receptions for scores, while Chris Montoya contributed a 29-yard interception return and Tim Phun grabbed a safety to start the second quarter.

The 3-0 start to the season is the first since 2004 for Tongva Nation, who went 8-3 that season.

Rowland 27, Northview 24

The Vikings (1-2, 0-0) lost their second straight game as the Raiders (3-0, 0-0) scored with 34 seconds left in the game to hang on for the win Friday night at Rowland High’s Thomas Aney Stadium.

After getting pinned on their own 26- yard line, the Vikings punted to Victor Garcia, who returned the ball to the Vikings’ nine-yard line with 40 second left, setting up the winning pass from quarterback George Campos to Alec Winters six seconds later.

The Vikings overcame a 21-3 deficit at halftime with three straight scores. Damien Lavine’s four-yard rush with 3:14 had given the Vikings the 24-21 lead.

South Torrance 33, Rosemead 27

A third interception of quarterback Everardo Camacho ended the Panthers’ (0-2, 0-0) final drive and preserved the win for the Spartans (2-0, 0-0) Friday night at South Torrance High.

The Panthers were driving and had converted a fourth down with a five-yard run by Alex Zavala but Camacho was then picked off by Carl Kaemerle with less than two minutes left in the game.

Camacho threw 10-of 16 passes for 145 yards and three touchdowns in the loss, while Steven San Miguel pulled in four catches for 93 yards and two touchdowns.

San Dimas 56, San Gabriel 14

In a rematch of last year’s Mid-Valley Division semi-final, the Saints (3-0, 0-0) scored on their first six possessions to hand the Matadors (1-2, 0-0) their second straight loss of the season Friday night at San Dimas High.

The Saints scored early and often, taking advantage of mistakes by the Matadors, including a fumble by quarterback Marquis Valenzuela on their first possession, which set up the first of three touchdowns by Saints running back Jake Payton.

The Saints held a 56-0 lead in the third when the Matadors finally got on the board, on a 33-yard pass to Joseph Mayorga with less than five minutes left in the third. Mayorga would score again in the fourth, this time on a 17-yard pass.

Hoover 33, South Pasadena 28

Five touchdowns from Jesse Pina helped the Tornadoes (2-0, 0-0) remain undefeated as they knocked off the Tigers (1-1, 0-0) Friday night at South Pasadena High.

Pina, who had been dismissed from the team last year, returned to have a career night, rushing for 169 yards on 17 carries. His final touchdown of the night put the Tornadoes on top for good with less than

Los Altos 49, Wilson 0

The Conquerors (3-0, 0-0) laid claim to “The Wheel” for the second consecutive season as they shut out the Wildcats (1-2, 0-0) Friday night at Los Altos.

Estuardo Marcos repeated the same scoring prowess he showed against Salesian last week, rushing for 195 yards and another four touchdowns in the win.
