Week 7 Round-Ups: Northwest Division

Cantwell-Sacred Heart 8, Bosco Tech 7

A 25-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Timothy Walsh to Joseph Henriquez and a two-point conversion run by Walsh lifted the Cardinals (1-6, 1-2) to their first win of the year, knocking off the Tigers (1-6, 1-2) Friday night at Cantwell-Sacred Heart.

The Tigers had taken a 7-0 lead in the first quarter when Tigers quarterback Brady Martinez scored from a yard out. Running back David Fuentez led the Tigers on the ground with 129 yards on 24 carries.

 

La Salle 47, Mary Star of the Sea 6

The Lancers (7-0, 2-0) remained undefeated as they broke the Stars’ (2-5, 2-2) two-game league winning streak Friday night at San Pedro High’s Daniels Field.

Quarterback Austin Wallis completed 12 of 18 passes on the night for 176 yards and two touchdowns.  Bryce Harvey and Kenny Giles each scored on the ground in the second half, with Harvey scored from 52 yards and Giles from 18 yards.

The Stars’ lone score came in the first quarter when quarterback Jeremy Atencio hit Joseph Alves for a 63-yard score, but the point after attempt failed, leaving them trailing 7-6. The Lancers would score the next four times they touched the ball and closing out the half with a 34-6 lead.

La Puente 43, Bassett 14

The Warriors (5-2, 3-1) moved into a three-way tie for second place as they handed the Olympians (2-5, 1-3) their second straight loss Friday night at Bassett High’s Olympian Field.

Ivan Vasquez connected on eight of 10 passes for 160 yards and threw three touchdowns, including a 70-yard strike to Noel Martinez in the second quarter that opened up the lead to 21-7.

Ganesha at Sierra Vista, 7:00pm

The Dons (4-3, 2-2) ended a two-game losing streak and pulled even in league play as they handed the Giants (0-7, 0-4) their second straight shut out Friday night at Sierra Vista High.

The Dons scored on all seven of their possessions in the game and scored two defensive touchdowns in the victory. Lee Jones scored four first-half touchdowns after quarterback Jonathon Mora connected with his brother Michael on a 60-yard strike on the first play of the game.

Azusa 55, Workman 24

The Aztecs (4-3, 3-1) pulled into a three-way tie for second in the Montview as they handed the Lobos (1-6, 0-4) their fifth straight loss Friday night at La Puente High.

Cameron Blackburn rushed for 211 yards and scored three touchdowns while quarterback Jose Ledesma passed for 146 yards and two touchdowns, both to Carlos Montiel. Justin Snedden was the Lobos’ highlight, rushing for 180 yards and a touchdown on 27 carries.

PIONEER
Centennial 33, South Torrance 10

The Apaches (2-5, 1-1) ended a four game losing streak and pulled into a tie for third place in the Pioneer League as they defeated the Spartans (3-4, 0-2) for the second year in a row, Friday night at Centennial High.

Deobeya Lee and Ronald Reed both gained over 100 yards for the Apaches in the victory. Reed scored twice in the first half to give the Apaches a 13-3 lead at the half. Lee scored his two touchdowns in the second half, which sealed the victory for the Apaches.

El Segundo 24,  Torrance 22

Sophomore quarterback Lars Nootbaar threw two second-half touchdowns to help the Eagles (4-3, 2-0) erase a 13-10 halftime deficit to knock off the Tartars (3-4, 1-1) and stay tied for first in the Pioneer League, Friday night at Torrance High’s Zamperini Stadium.

Nootbaar, in only his second start at varsity after starting quarterback Daniel Zeman was injured in last week’s game, hit Jaime Stewart for the go-ahead scores in the second half. He his Stewart on an 81-yard pass in the third, then in the fourth, increased the lead to 24-16 when he hit Stewart on another pass.

The Eagles will face off against North Torrance at home next Friday for sole possession of first place in the Pioneer League.

North Torrance 49, Lawndale 21

The Saxons (5-2, 2-0) got a career night from quarterback Jorge Hernandez as they knocked off the Cardinals (3-4, 0-2) to stay tied for the top spot int  eh Pioneer League Friday night at Lawndale High.

Hernandez completed 23 of 31 passes for 417 yards and threw five touchdown passes. Devante Jenkins caught four of those scores as part of his 149 yard, 10-catch performance. Adrian Colclasure claimed the other touchdown pass, a 72-yard strike early in the game.
