(Bell Gardens)- Bell Gardens High School is a very friendly place, unless you’re wearing opposing colors. The Lancers gave the Schurr Spartans a rude welcome in a 27-24 Almont League victory on Friday night.
The evening belonged to BG’s senior running back Jorge Remigio, who was involved in every scoring play the Lancers were able to muster. Remigio, who gained 140 yards on 20 carries, had touchdown blasts of 3 4, and 51 yards. If that weren’t enough, he also caught a 6-yard scoring toss from quarterback Charles Ontiveros.
On the Spartan side, the scoring was initiated by junior quarterback Sal Chavez, who completed 17 of 28 passes for 190 yards, including a 65-yard touchdown strike to wide receiver Abel Troncoza. Chavez also scored a touchdown with his legs, running for a 10-yard score in the third quarter. The remainder of the Spartan scoring came on a 4- yard run by Eric Perez, and a 27-yard field goal off the foot of Estevan Tonche.
Next week will find both of these teams hitting the road. The Lancers travel to Montebello to take on the Oilers, while the Spartans will visit Alhambra to battle the Moors.
