Colts Shutout Lions, 13-0

(South El Monte)- Covina quarterback Sebastian Duran threw for a touchdown and ran for a touchdown to put the Colts up 13-0 in the first quarter, and it’s all they would need Friday night against El Monte at South El Monte High School.

Duran (73-yards passing, 110-yards rushing) three minutes into the game ran in from 11 yards out for the first score, the extra point was no good Covina was up 6-0. After a three and out for El Monte Duran led them down the field again and threw a 31 yard touchdown pass to Remontary McClain.

Duran also had two sure touchdown passes dropped.

The Colts’ Donte Hughes with his two sacks and the rest of the defense kept the Lions offense in check holding EM to 149 yards of total offense.

Lions quarterback Quang Phong went 11 of 23 for 81 yards and rushed another 46. Running back Adrian Ramirez had 62 total yards receiving and rushing, Eddie Landeros had three catches for 27 yards. The Lions had their chance to score when Michael Jimenez took a punt 61 yards to the four yard line and then penalties pushed them back to the 30 yard line.

El Monte defense highlights included interceptions by defensive backs Sergio Sanchez and Connar Salazar.
