Game Night: Week 8 Northwest Division

Can Louie Soto and the Knights derail La Salle?

All games are at 7:00 p.m. unless otherwise indicated

Friday 10/12

Montview League

Azusa (4-3) v. Gladstone (7-0) at Citrus College

Last Year: Azusa 41-7

What a difference a year makes. Last year Azusa was in the middle of 27 straight Montivew League victories and Gladstone was in the process of going 3-7. Graduation has taken its toll on the Aztecs and the Gladiators have come into their own. Gladstone has dominated the Montview this year and the domination will continue Friday night.

Gladstone  42 Azusa 14

Duarte (4-3) at La Puente (5-2)

Last Year: La Puente 49-7

Second place in the Montview will up for grabs in this one. If Denzel Talifero can come back after sustaining an injury last week against Gladstone, the Falcons have a chance. La Puente is on a roll and wants as many wins as possible to avoid a trip to Santa Barbara or Ojai. Warriors take care of business.

La Puente 35 Duarte 17

Del Rey

La Salle (7-0) at Bishop Montgomery (6-1)

Last Year: Bishop Montgomery 35-20

Bishop Montgomery’s wins have come against teams with a combined record of 9-33. To be fair La Salle’s opponents have gone 16-33. The Knights average margin of victory is 20.8 while the Lancer’s is 38.8. Bishop Montgomery is at home and should be ready after a week off will stay close for a half. La Salle wins going away.

La Salle 42 Bishop Montgomery 17

Olympic

Maranatha v. Whittier Christian at Whitier College

Last Year: Whittier Christian 24-21

Hit by the injury bug a win for the Minutemen can cure a lot of ills. Whittier Christian has had a couple of head scratching losses but have seemed to right the ship with Ryan Esslinger’s 25 touchdowns leading the way. Maranatha hasn’t beaten the Heralds since joining the Olympic and this won’t be the year that changes.

Whittier Christian 35 Maranatha 23

Pioneer

North (5-2) at El Segundo (4-3)

Last Year: El Segundo 26-22

The Saxons and the Eagles are both 2-0 in league. The have one common opponent, West (Torrance) and both lost. These two right now are the cream of the Pioneer League and the title could be on the line tonight. North’s bubbas will control the line of scrimmage and the Saxons get the win.

North 35 El Segundo 20

Tri-Valley

Nordhoff (7-0) at Carpinteria (4-3)

Last Year: Nordhoff  34-24

Nordhoff only scored twice in the second half against Oak Park but it was enough for the win. Carpinteria was off last week and will need to shake any rust off early or this one will get ugly fast. Nordhoff is hunting for a three-peat in the Tri-Valley league and need to remain focuse or get bit by the Warriors. Rangers will improve to 8-0

Nordhoff 40 Carpinteria 17

Bishop Diego (7-0) at Oak Park (4-4)

Last Year: Did not play

The Cardinals and the Eagles have not played each other since 2005 in a game Oak Park won 35-12 so there will be no revenge factor here. Bishop Diego sits atop the Mid Valley’s Northwest poll and Oak Park will look to knock them down. A strong performance by the Eagles last week against Nordhoff should have made the Cardinals sit up and take notice. Bishop Diego did notice and Anthony Carter, Abel Gonzalez and company will be ready.
