Almont League
Schurr (2-5) at Alhambra (3-4)
Last Year: Alhambra 18-8
Things are tough for Alhambra. Head Coach Joe Kanach made official what we all knew was coming this week. He stepped down. The Moors got fat off of Keppel last week after falling to Bell Gardens in the league opener. It’s always hard surviving a mid season coaching change. Schurr has been playing well since league play started. The Spartans got a win over San Gabriel before falling to BG last week by three. They should have enough to beat an Alhambra team with a lot of things on its mind other than football.

Bell Gardens (5-2) at Montebello (5-2)
Last Year: Montebello 33-21
There are many similarities between these two teams. They are both 5-2, both 2-0 in league and they both lost to El Rancho in non league. Both teams can score but they also give up a lot of points a times. Expect a shootout with a big stop in the fourth quarter being the difference. Lancers stop Oilers late.

Mission Valley League
Gabrielino (6-1) at Rosemead (3-4)
Last Year: Rosemead 24-6
While Gabrielino was losing its first game of the year Rosemead was getting hit by a blue truck with El Monte plates. But the Panthers were down by only one score in the third quarter and hung with the Lions for awhile. Steven San Miguel is playing lights out. The Eagles loss to South wasn’t so pretty. If the Rosemead offense shows up again and the Panthers can make a few stops they’ll be fine. Gabrielino is also fine…in non league play. Rosemead bounces back.

Arroyo (4-3) at South El Monte (3-4)
Last Year: Arroyo 28-7
The Knights got what they expected last week in a W over Mt. View but was 14-3 expected? Arroyo’s offense needs to kick it into gear. South stumbled in the league opener against Rosemead but rebounded last week to beat Gabrielino. Levi Wells is now the starting quarterback allowing guys like Mario Barciaga and Javier Machuca to play in their natural positions. It will be a struggle but the Eagles get the edge.

Rio Hondo League
San Marino (7-0) at Temple City (4-3)
Last Year: San Marino 24-13
The Titans have won seven straight while the Rams have won four. The Titans look like the second best team in the Rio while the Rams suddenly look like the third. San Marino should be okay. Matt Wofford, Nick Gott and Ryan Wood will be a handful for Temple City. But there is something about this Temple City team. Four weeks ago they were dead in the water and now they’re on the verge of a playoff spot after an improbable 42-35 win over South Pasadena. A win here would be nothing short of a miracle. No miracles here, Titans prevail.
San Marino 31 Temple City 20
Valle Vista League
Covina (5-3) at San Dimas (6-1)
Last Year: Covina 39-21
The Saints have been rolling in the Valle Vista. They’ve racked up 143 points in the last three weeks. Nobody thought the Colts would be 5-3 (6-2 with forfeit win) through the first eight weeks. Covina looks like a solid number three in league. But the Saints have too much here. The running game will pound the Covina front and the Colts defense will have no answer. It could get out of hand in the second half. San Dimas wins big.
San Dimas 35 Covina 14
