(Hacienda Heights) – With 1:56 left in the fourth quarter, Reggie Turner scored the final touchdown of game against Los Altos Friday night to cap off a 28-point comeback and beat the Conquerors 35-31.
After scoring 17 straight points within the first three minutes of the game, the Bearcats were silenced for the rest of the first half.
Turner scored the first touchdown of the game, Turner but was then shutdown for the rest of the first half. The passing game was at a stand still as well. Tanner Diebold completed only five passes.
“I think we got complacent…we got comfortable,” said Bearcat head coach Adrian Medrano. “We took our situation for granted. Hats off to Los Altos, they Battled. Those guys weren’t going to quit.”
Quitting was the one thing that the Conquerors did not do on senior night. In fact, once they were down 17-0 in the first quarter, the offense woke up and rallied off four straight scoring drives.
With a mixture of run, pass and a fumble the Conquerors pulled ahead of the Bearcats 28-17 at the end of the first half.
“We put the game in the hands of young men,” said Los Altos head coach Dale Ziola. “They did a good job tonight. They battled and played tough until the very end. I’m very proud of them.”
After intermission, it was Bonita’s turn to score points and hold their opponent to three points.
The Bearcats started their comeback when Brandt Davis kicked a 41-yard field goal with 9:22 left in the third quarter.
After a Los Altos fumble in Bearcat territory, it only took Bonita five plays to punch it in for six. Medrano looked to his go to back in Tunner and let him do the rest.
With 8:18 to go in the final quarter, Tunner scampered his way to end zone from 34-yards out. Pulling the Bearcats ahead 29-28.
Turner was looked upon again late in the fourth.
After the Conquerors kicked a 43-yard field goal and 1:56 left in regulation, Turner was given the ball and did what he does best, score.
For the fourth and final time Turner scored a 26-yard run putting the Bearcats up 35-31. Los Altos had a chance to rally, but the drive was halted when Cristian Hacegaba threw a pick in their own red zone with seven seconds left in the game.
“I thought our defense played extremely well,” said Medrano. “The defense really stepped up in the second half. Our defense had a short field and the played extremely tough and extremely hard in the the second half.”
With the win, the Bearcats remain undefeated in league play and look to continue to stay perfect next week when host Diamond Ranch.
With the tough loss, the Conquerors look to end their season on a good note when they host Walnut.
