The Saxons (9-2) advanced to the quarterfinals of the CIF Southern Section’s Northwest Division playoffs as they shut out the Eagles (5-6), the Tri-Valley’s at-large representative, 27-0, Friday night at North Torrance’s Saxon Field.

The Saxons’ defense earned the school’s third shut out of the year by limiting the Eagles’ offense to a total of 103 combined yards. They limited Eagles senior quarterback Jack Gerstenberger to only 35 yards of passing in the game, his lowest output of his final season behind center for the Eagles. The Eagles’ rushing game fared no better, combining for just 78 yards.

The Saxons will travel to the San Gabriel Valley to take on Gladstone in the quarterfinals, the Gladiators advanced to the quarterfinals with a 55-17 victory over Mary Star of the Sea Friday night at Baldwin Park High’s Braves Stadium.
