Rio Hondo Earns Division IV State Bid

Arcadia – Rio Hondo Prep, winners of the CIF Southern Section’s Northeast Division, will see their season extended for at least one more week, as they were selected for the CIF State Division IV Regional Playoffs this Friday night to take on the San Diego Section Division V Champions, Solana Beach Santa Fe Christian.

The Kares (13-1) will face the Eagles (10-3) on Friday, December 7, at Del Norte High School in San Diego. The Eagles went 2-3 in their non league season, but since a 13-8 loss to Tri-Valley Champion Bishop Diego, the Eagles have won eight consecutive games en route to the Division V title win over their Coastal League rivals Parker, 31-15 on Friday night.

The Kares only loss came against their Finals opponent, Mission Prep.  The Kares have won 12 games in a row since their 47-14 loss to the Royals in Week 1, including their 28-21 title victory Friday night at Rio Hondo Prep.

The winner of this game will face the winner of the Northern Regional semi-final, Modesto Central Catholic and Oakland McClymonds, at the Home Depot Center on Friday December 14, as part of the 2012 CIF State Bowl Championships. Last year’s Division IV state champions, Sierra Canyon, was eliminated from the Mid-Valley Playoffs by Monrovia on November 23.
