Northview 66, Temple City 59 – Temple City made a frantic rally in the fourth quarter but ran out of time as Northview held on for the victory. Eric Olivas is one to keep tabs on this season as he buried six three-pointers towards 24 points with 11 rebounds to boot against the Vikings. Kasmir Khaliq put in 14 points and Felix Awujo scored five with six assists for TC.
Whittier 82, Rancho Alamitos 54 – The Cardinals finished the game shooting a strong 58.3% from the field and came out high octane ringing up 20 or over in each of its first three quarters to easily wrangle up the Vaqueros. Jerry Leon (4 steals, 2 assists) was 8 of 10 for 20 points and Guillermo Blas (5 rebounds, 4 steals, 3 assists) went 7 of 11 for 19 points to lead Whittier. Jerry Mullaney of Rancho Alamitos led all scorers with 21 points.

Renaissance Academy 67, John Muir 51 – Jelani Mitchell and Taturs Mayberry cashed in 14 points apiece and Dejon Williams piled up 11 of his 13 points in the first half to lead the Mustangs.
Don Lugo 76, West Covina 68 – The Bulldogs responded with much improvement albeit a setback on the scoreboard to Don Lugo. David Kim put forth a ten point and 19 rebound ballgame for West Covina, who was also fueled by Jared Valdiviez, who knocked down six three pointers towards 25 points.
Bosco Tech 56, Mountain View 41 – Dylan Dario opened the Tigers’ campaign on a strong 20 points and four steals note in a win over Mountain View. The Vikings received a game high 22 points from Isaiah Mendoza and nine points-ten rebounds out of Jordan Santone.
Gabrielino 65, San Gabriel 54 –Eli Peters began his sophomore hoop campaign with 22 points, three assists, and two blocks for the Eagles who skimmed by crosstown rival San Gabriel. Reigning MVL MVP selection Tyler Shimamoto scored 19 and dished out nine assists. Cameryn Matthews had eight points and 12 rebounds.
Whittier 65, St Margaret’s 43 – The Cardinals set precedence in the second stanza when muffing St Margaret’s to just one free throw before cruising away. Whittier sophomore Dominic Saldana stepped up to offer an excellent 17 point, three steal, and eight assist contribution and Blas lit up the perimeter for four three-pointers and a team high 18 points and eight boards.
Mark Keppel 66, Walnut 58 – Keppel had the momentum in the second half, where it scored 41 points, capped by a 21-9 fourth quarter that proved the difference in defeating Walnut.
California 52, Glendora 49 (OT) – Cal prevailed in overtime to start its season off with a big win over Glendora.

Gabrielino 82, Rosemead 40 – Shimamoto erupted for 29 points in Gabrielino’s easy drubbing of league rival Rosemead. Peters tacked on another 10 with seven caroms. Nathan Quach molded his nine all on a trio of treys, and Stephen Franco was the other Eagle in double figure points with 12.
Village Christian 61, Glendale 45 – Bryan Alberts (19 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists) and Marsalis Johnson (17 points) were pivotal come crunch time for the Crusaders, who woke up with a 22-10 fourth quarter to fend off stingy Glendale.
Pasadena 50, Chino Hills 47 – Dre Spight ignited with enough time remaining to rally Pasadena from a six point deficit with about 50 seconds to play and spark the Bulldogs in a thrilling win over a talented Chino Hills armada that included promising freshman Lonzo Ball and other threats in junior all-purpose player Bishop Mency and senior point guard Cameron Curry.
Spight dropped two bombs roughly 20 seconds apart including one where he was fouled on, moments after the Huskies missed an opportunity to clinch it in the paint. Spight calmly splashed his four point play free throw to give PHS a 48-47 lead, an advantage that would not be surrendered.
Jeffery McClendon (6 points, 11 rebounds) was a pivotal force throughout for Pasadena and stood in Chino Hills’ way to take four charges, forced a sideline turnover on the ensuing possession which Brandon Jolley (19 points, 12 rebounds) capped the scoring with a pair of free throws. The Bulldogs then swarmed the Huskies on the last drive of the game, and prevented any desperation shot from being launched.
Baldwin Park 61, Sierra Vista 52 – The Braves were powered by Daniel Lopez (21 points) and Ricardo Higueros (16) in downing rival Sierra Vista.
La Mirada 72, La Serna 44 – Taelin Webb finished a solid 11 for 17 from the field towards 25 points to lead the Matadores.

Gabrielino 68, Los Altos 59 – Gabrielino avenged an early end to its season last year in the first round of CIFSS playoffs by defeating Los Altos 68-59 to advance to the Bosco Tech tournament title game versus Schurr (moved to this Tuesday night 7:30 at Bosco Tech). Shimamoto was quite volcanic with 31 points. Both Peters (15 and 10) and Matthews (10 and 15) accrued double-doubles.
El Monte 53, Boys Republic 49 – Jorge Caldera chimed in an impressive performance with 27 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Lions past Boys Republic.
Monrovia 66, Duarte 61 – Monrovia squandered a 23-2 first quarter lead and lost 66-61 to rival Duarte, who settled down after the disastrous start and capped its comeback with a 26-13 fourth quarter to foil the Wildcats’ season opener. Antoine Gholar topped out with 23 points and Marcel Harris contributed 10 points and 14 rebounds to lead Monrovia.
Rosemead 45, San Gabriel 37 – Ethan Chan buried a trio of three-pointers and finished with 10 points, while Dominic Salas hauled off five steals and eight points as both helped the Panthers to its first win of this fledgling season.

Pasadena 78, Price 71 – The Bulldogs were off to a rocking start, finishing the first stanza with a five point possession on a bucket from Nick Brown, who was fouled only to miss the free throw, before the ball was secured by Pasadena and swung to Spight who knocked down a three pointer at the buzzer. Spight later nailed a clutch three with a little over a minute to play to give the Bulldogs a crucial five point advantage.
Pasadena, leading by as much as 12 in the third, overcame its own 28 turnover mess in which the lead was briefly yielded, to prevail over perennial playoff power Price. ‘Dena was led by Brandon Jolley (20 points, 17 rebounds), and Perris Hicks, who had a career-high 20 points. Chance Murray of Price was the leading scorer with 21 points.
Damien 54, California 52 – Damien narrowly escaped Cal down the stretch and received 25 points from highly regarded sophomore guard Jeremy Hemsley in its win over the Condors.
Cantwell 43, Renaissance Academy 42 – Cantwell hung on in a nailbiter after the Wildcats’ potential game winner glanced off the rim and into the rebounding arms of Joey Covarrubias, who had 10 points and seven boards. Jose Estrada added 15 points and eight rebounds for the Cardinals.

El Camino Real 62, Pasadena 55 (Rose City Roundball Classic President’s division championship) – Turnovers again riddled Pasadena, but this time it bit the Bulldogs, who nevertheless battled valiantly against the LA City Section Division 1’s top-ranked El Camino Real Conquistadores, who shined with tournament standouts in high flying MVP Michael Thomas, who thundered in several driving dunks, and all-tourney nominees Julian Richardson and Maleke Haynes
Jolley again powered Pasadena with 19 points and 12 rebounds and was named to the all-tournament team along with Hicks and Price’s Murray.
La Salle 51, Cajon 49 (Rose City Roundball Classic Governor’s Division championship) – Freshman dynamo Milan Acquaah earned Governor’s division MVP honors scoring 20 points and coming away with the game-winning steal for La Salle off Cajon as time waned. Vance Jackson, another frosh with big upside on the Lancers’ squad, scored 18 and joined senior Izzy Lacy on the all-tourney podium. First year head coach Jelani Gardner has La Salle jetting off with some hardware in tow to a 4-0 start.
Pacifica GG 65, Whittier 58 (Garden Grove Winter Classic championship) – Whittier ran into a physical Pacifica Mariner squad that cushioned itself with enough a lead into the fourth quarter to hold off the Cardinals, who were led by Leon’s 17 points and eight caroms. Brian Alvarez hit paydirt on four of ten from threeville and led Pacifica with 19 points.
Troy 64, California 50 – Cal, although cutting the lead to single digits in the third quarter, was left with a bit too much to overcome Troy, who led 41-20 at half.
Diamond Ranch 77, Baldwin Park 72 – Alex Delgado broke loose for 28 points and teammate Daniel Lopez brewed up 24, but it wasn’t enough for Baldwin Park in a tough loss to Diamond Ranch.
