“He looks good, but we’re going to see if he can get it done on the field.” That’s what Gladstone HC Albert Sanchez told Mid Valley Sports in the spring of 2011 about Kevin Amezquita.
In the fall of 2012 Amezquita showed he could get it done on the field by accounting for 42 combined touchodwns. Throwing for 18 and rushing for 24 more. This includes 1,570 yards passing and 1,615 yards rushing.
What the numbers don’t show was the leadership and the ability to make something out of anything. With Amezquita the Gladiators won their first playoff game since the 1970’s, they finished 10-2, and put the fear of God into the North Torrance Saxons before falling late.
Without Amezquita G-Stone would have been another Montview League team. With Amezquita they were very very special. Great year, great quarterback.
Anyone want to make the fight that he’s the best quarterback in school history?
