(Arcadia)- Arcadia linebacker Austin “White Lightning” Ford has committed to Whittier College.  As the Apaches Team Captain, Ford earned All Area First Team and All Pacific League First Team honors, and was Defensive MVP for Arcadia High.

Ford will finish his High School career representing Arcadia in the National Football Foundation Hall of Fame All-Star Game on May 17.  At the end of his senior season, Ford was ranked in the top 30 linebackers in the State with 130 total tackles and 79 solos.  Whittier’s Head Coach, Todd Stratton, is extremely pleased to have Ford joining his ranks of Freshman players and expects Ford to make immediate contributions to the team, from both an athletic and leadership perspective.

“He had many D-3 schools courting him, but he really sees the passion in the coaches and the players at Whittier. He just didn’t see the fire in the eyes of the coaches at the other schools interested in him,” said his mother Kathy Ford. “I think like any kid, he would have loved to have been courted by a D-1 school, but he is a grateful kid, and believes he is where God wants him to be.”
