Eagles beat up on Vikings

(South El Monte)- South El Monte High increased its winning streak Mountain View to 16 with a 35-6 victory over the Vikings Friday night at The Swamp.Anthony Molina led the Eagles with three touchdowns.

Before South’s offense even got the the field they were up 14-0 after a 44 yard interception return from Saul Busto and a 55 yard punt return from Molina.

The Vikings got on the board when Jason Cordero hit Alex Ruiz on a 51 yard bomb, to make it 14-6 after the extra point failed.

The Eagles came back in only 10 seconds. Molina took the ball in on a 55 yard run to make it 21-6. Then half way through the second quarter Molina scored his third touchdown of the game on a 36 yard run. Molina finished with 90 yards rushing.

With both teams staying out of the end zone in the third quarter. Hector Casas got the Southmen on the board in the fourth on a two yard touchdown run to make it 35-6.

On the Vikings defense Jarirus Gonzalez and Jerry Ponce had seven tackles each, Pedro Robles had two sacks, and Rafael Del Real had a sack and a fumble recovery.

The South’s swarming defense was led by Freddy Aguilar who had an interception, Arnold Barbosa and Ruben Acevado who had two sacks.

“We’re a young team. It might not show on the score board but we’re making strides every week,” said Vikes HC James Wilson after the game.

“We can get better and we still are making mistakes,” said South El Monte HC Ray Hernandez. “But I’m happy with the win. We are one family trying to get better.”

South El Monte (1-5, 1-0) will take on El Monte next week, while View will face Rosemead.
