Montview League

La Puente (5-2) at Azusa (5-2) at Citrus College

Last Year: La Puente 28-7

Azusa is trying to remain unbeaten in league while La Puente is attempting to keep pace. The Warriors bounced back last week with a big win over Duarte while Azusa humbled Gladstone. The Aztecs seem to be clicking right now. LP falls short in a close one.

Azusa 27 La Puente 24

Almont League

Montebello (4-3) at Bell Gardens (5-2)

Last Year: Bell Gardens 7-0

Okay maybe Bell Gardens isn’t the best team in the Almont. This is Montebello’s chance to make some noise in league and to stay on track for the Almont crown. Are the Oilers for real? This game could tell. As for BG, what happened to the offense? Montebello wins a defensive struggle.

Montebello 13 Bell Gardens 7

Del Rio League

El Rancho (4-3) at California (3-4)

Last Year: California 42-23

Can El Rancho get over the Del Rio hump? The Dons need this one to do just that. On paper El Rancho rolls. But as the old saying goes the game isn’t played on paper. Cal is always a nemesis but this time the Dons get it done.

El Rancho 24 California 17

Hacienda League

West Covina (4-4) at Bonita (5-2)

Last Year:Bonita 38-21

If West Covina doesn’t get this one all could be lost. A third league loss could cripple the Bulldogs. Bonita is at the beginning of a brutal three week stretch. Westco is followed by Los Altos and Diamond Ranch. What better way to start than with a victory? Bearcats escape with a win.

Bonita 28 West Covina 24

Mission Valley League

Rosemead (6-1) at El Monte (1-6

Last Year: El Monte 50-34

Matt Koffler’s return as coach for Rosemead is the story here. The Panthers just need to make sure they don’t mess it up. In other words be careful. Go into El Monte, take care of business and get out of Dodge. Koffler is back for only this one game. It figures to be a successful one. Rosemead rolls.

Rosemead 38 El Monte 7

Arroyo (6-1) at Mt. View (3-4)

Last Year: Arroyo 14-3

Arroyo hasn’t let any other MVL teams get in its way. The Knights aren’t about to allow Mt. View to ruin the party. Although the Vikes have competed in tough losses in their first two league games this one is a challenge. View hangs around for maybe a half. After that it’s all Arroyo.

Arroyo 41 Mt. View 14

Pacific League

Arcadia (5-2) at Muir (6-1)

Last Year: Muir 38-0

Arcadia has won three out of four Pacific League games but in the one game against a contender, the Apaches were thumped by Burbank 51-14. If they fall behind right away against Muir they could get thumped again. Muir as usual is explosive and the Mustangs are unbeaten in league play which has included wins over Burroughs and Burbank. Mustangs gallop at home.

Muir 35 Arcadia 14

Rio Hondo League

South Pasadena (3-4) at Temple City (2-5)

Last Year: Temple City 42-35 OT

Can Temple City get the win it needs to get? Despite losing five of seven the truth is if the Rams can get two more Rio Hondo League wins (South Pas, La Canada) they can make the playoffs. It all starts here. South Pas is in the same boat. The Tigers have lost twice in league but alot of folks lose to Monrovia and San Marino. If they win out, they also will get in. Bottom line- the game is huge. South Pasadena did compete against San Marino in just a 15 point loss. Both teams routed Alhambra. The game is a literal toss-up. Slight edge to the Tigers.

South Pasadena 20 Temple City 17

Valle Vista League

Baldwin Park (6-1) at Pomona (7-0)

Last Year: Pomona 13-7  3 OT

Pomona could be in trouble with suspensions coming from last week’s brawl with Wilson. Baldwin Park bounced back from the San Dimas debacle with a hard fought win over Covina. Prior to the possible penalties Pomona looked good for this one. Now, not so much. BP and Michael Moran…close.

Baldwin Park 21 Pomona 17

Tri-Valley League

Carpenteria (6-1) at Nordhoff (6-1)

Last Year: Nordhoff 49-28

Was Nordhoff’s loss to Oak Park an aberration? We’ll find out this week as the Rangers are in for a tough one against league foe Carpenteria. The Warriors only loss was to Bishop Diego 24-6. A home field and a sense of redemption should be enough for Nordhoff. Rangers find the target.

Nordhoff 30 Carpenteria 20
